Collection: CeraVe

Born out of a growing body of evidence suggesting that many dermatologic skin concerns were associated with a decreased level of ceramides in the skin. CeraVe developed their formulations with the expertise of dermatologists, combining Ceramides and MVE Technology to restore the skin’s barrier, ensure lasting hydration and protection for all skin types.

CERAVE FAQ

What makes CeraVe different from other skin care brands?

Before the launch of CeraVe, a growing body of evidence was suggesting that many dermatologic skin concerns were associated with a decreased level of ceramides in the skin.

In 2005, a dedicated panel of board-certified dermatologists leveraged this overwhelming scientific data to develop a new technology containing human skin-identical ceramides 1, 3, and 6-II, fatty acids, and other lipids enhanced with a revolutionary delivery system known as MultiVesicular Emulsion Technology, MVE.

The technology was making the formulas not only efficacious in restoring skin barrier function but also able to sustain moisture for up to 24 hours with just one use.

The formulation of skin-identical CERAmides with MVE technology was the birth of CeraVe, the affordable, accessible, cosmetically elegant, therapeutic skin care for all with steadfast usage and multiple recommendations from doctors and patients alike.

What are ceramides?

Ceramides are lipids (oils) found naturally in the skin and are essential in supporting the skin barrier and retaining moisture. Without ceramides, skin can become dry, itchy, or irritated.

The stratum corneum, often referred to as a brick wall-like structure, is comprised of corneocytes (bricks) held in place by a defined ratio of intercellular lipids, consisting of ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids (cement).

When ceramide levels are low, the skin barrier is weakened and when weakened water can escape from the skin and external aggressors such as allergens and pollutants can easily enter the skin.

Applying ceramides directly to the skin restores the skin barrier and retains moisture for skin that is once again plump and hydrated.

What is MVE Technology?

Found in CeraVe's range of skin and body moisturisers, Multivesicular Emulsion (MVE) technology helps restore your skin barrier by providing long-lasting hydration.

MVE technology has several advantages over most topical formulations: In contrast to "quick burst release," CeraVe's MVE is a structure of "time-released" spheres providing multiple phases of moisturisation.

Each MVE sphere is composed of a series of concentric layers that trap and hold ingredients such as ceramides, fatty acids and phytosphingosine.

Over time, the layers slowly and sequentially dissolve, releasing CeraVe's essential ingredients onto the surface of the skin, helping to replenish the skin's natural ceramides, sustain moisture for up to 24 hours, and restore barrier function.
